Vincent Kompany insists Bayern Munich can have "no excuses" after squandering a two-goal lead during their defeat by Bochum. (More Football News)

The Bundesliga leaders were beaten at home for the first time in the league this season, as their relegation-threatened opponents recovered from 2-0 down to snatch an unlikely 3-2 victory at the Allianz Arena.

All appeared to be going to plan for Bayern, who took control through Raphael Guerreiro's brace, though Jakov Medic halved the deficit for the visitors.

However, Kompany's side were forced to play the entire second half with 10 men after Joao Palhinha received a straight red card.

Bochum subsequently capitalised on their numerical advantage as Ibrahima Sissoko levelled, before Matus Bero completed the turnaround in the 71st minute.

"No excuses. We lost, and we can analyse as much as we want, but we have to take responsibility for everything," Kompany told reporters during his post-match press conference.

"Even with 10 men, our ambition must be to win the game, or at least not to lose it. We didn't achieve that. Bochum deserve the feeling of having won, I know what energy that takes.

"So far, we have always reacted really well [to defeats]. In these moments, you have to accept that the criticism will be there, but we will focus on the reaction.

"We lost, and it is now only about the next game. That's the only important thing. That was a moment, but we have other moments that are coming up, and that's what's important for me."

Despite the defeat, Bayern remain eight points clear at the Bundesliga summit, after second-place Bayer Leverkusen were beaten 2-0 by Werder Bremen.

Thomas Muller, who started for Kompany's much-changed side, says his team-mates must not switch off, with the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Leverkusen coming up on Tuesday.

"We turned in a really good performance at the beginning, but then we made mistakes," the veteran forward said. "We missed a penalty, saw a red card and conceded goals.

"To play with 10 men doesn't necessarily lead to goals. There was plenty to analyse for everyoneipl365, but we still move on. Maybe, that's easier because nothing's changed in the table. We'll fully focus on Tuesday from tomorrow on."
