Oscar Piastri has signed a new long-term contract with McLaren ahead of this weekend's Australian Grand Prix. (More Motorsport News)

The Australian put pen to paper on an extension to his existing deal, which was due to run to the end of 2026, though the exact length of these fresh terms is unknown.

Last season saw Piastri, alongside team-mate Lando Norris, help McLaren secure their first constructors' title since 1998.

The Australian claimed his first two victories in Formula One last year, winning the Hungarian Grand Prix and Azerbaijan Grand Prix, while also picking up eight podiums.  

Leclerc got the nod ahead of current team-mate Carlos Sainz to remain with the Italian team, with the Ferrari driver ready to join forces with Hamilton in 2025.

The McLaren duo finished fourth and second respectively in the drivers' championship, and will be hoping to deny Max Verstappen a fifth straight title in the 2025 season, which begins in Piastri's homeland of Australia this weekend.

"It's a great feeling knowing that I'm part of McLaren's long-term vision,66br" Piastri said. 

"The team had the belief in me when we signed in 2022, and the journey we've gone on over the past two seasons to help return McLaren to the very top of the sport has been incredible.

"There are so many talented and special people working at McLaren who have helped me to become a Formula 1 race winner very early in my career. Therefore, I'm very proud to be continuing to represent this legendary team for many years to come."

"Not only is Oscar an incredibly talented driver, but his work ethic and cultural fit within the team made it a no-brainer to extend his time," added McLaren Racing chief executive officer, Zak Brown.
